Making Augmented
Reality Accessible
to Everyone.
Overview
At TikTok, I worked as a Content Designer on the Effect House platform, helping redesign the creator education and onboarding experience for a global community of AR creators. My work focused on simplifying how users learned, navigated, and interacted with complex AR creation tools through scalable content systems, embedded guidance, and UX writing.
I partnered closely with product, design, and engineering teams to redesign the Effect House Knowledge Center, shifting the experience from a dense documentation model to a more structured and discoverable learning ecosystem. The goal was to help creators onboard faster, reduce friction inside the product experience, and make technical AR concepts more approachable for users with varying levels of expertise.
The Problem
The original experience relied heavily on nested documentation and long-form educational content, which made it difficult for creators to quickly locate relevant guidance, understand workflows, or navigate learning resources efficiently. Content organization was highly documentation-driven rather than behavior-driven, creating friction for new users entering the AR creation process.
My Role
As the Content Designer, I focused on:
UX writing
Information architecture
Onboarding and learning flows
Embedded guidance systems
Content governance and scalability
Localization readiness
Cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and engineering
Content Design Approach
I redesigned the knowledge center to focus on clearer learning pathways and creator intent, making the experience more modular, scannable, and approachable for both beginner and advanced creators.
Key improvements included:
Restructuring educational content into clearer learning categories
Simplifying technical language and onboarding copy
Designing guided onboarding flows and contextual help systems
Implementing progressive disclosure patterns to reduce cognitive overload
Improving discoverability of tutorials, assets, and documentation
Building scalable content systems to support governance and localization
Before
After
Before & After
Before
The original knowledge center primarily served as a documentation hub, with dense navigation and long-form instructional content that could feel overwhelming for new creators.
After
The redesigned experience introduced a clearer content hierarchy, modular learning pathways, embedded guidance systems, and more intuitive navigation, helping creators understand the platform more quickly and begin building AR effects independently.
Outcome
The redesigned Effect House learning experience improved content discoverability, streamlined onboarding, and increased search efficiency by 30%. The updated system created a more accessible and scalable educational ecosystem that better supported TikTok’s growing global creator community.
Redesigning the
TikTok Careers
Experience.
Overview
As a Content Designer on the TikTok Careers experience, I helped redesign how TikTok communicated company culture, values, and employee storytelling across the recruiting journey. My work focused on improving content hierarchy, narrative clarity, and candidate engagement throughout the employer brand experience.
Unlike the job search flow work, which centered on discoverability and filtering, this experience focused more heavily on storytelling, content framing, and creating a clearer emotional connection between candidates and TikTok’s workplace culture.
The Problem
The original experience relied primarily on static imagery and loosely connected content blocks that provided limited context around TikTok’s culture, values, and employee experience. The page lacked strong narrative structure and made it difficult for candidates to quickly understand what differentiated the company culture.
My Role
As the Content Designer, I focused on:
Employer brand storytelling
UX writing
Information hierarchy
Content framing and narrative structure
Candidate engagement flows
Navigation and labeling strategy
Cross-functional collaboration with brand, design, and recruiting teams
Content Design Approach
I helped evolve the experience from a passive gallery-style layout into a more intentional and story-driven employer brand experience centered around TikTok’s company values and employee voices.
Key improvements included:
Introducing clearer narrative hierarchy and messaging structure
Aligning content to TikTok’s internal ByteStyle values
Improving contextual storytelling around employee experiences
Creating more purposeful content entry points
Strengthening readability and content focus across the page
Supporting a more engaging and emotionally resonant candidate journey
Before
After
Before & After
Before
The original experience relied heavily on standalone imagery with minimal contextual storytelling, making it difficult for candidates to connect company culture to the employee experience.
After
The redesigned experience introduced stronger messaging hierarchy, value-driven storytelling, and more intentional content framing that helped communicate TikTok’s culture in a clearer and more engaging way.
Outcome
The updated experience created a more cohesive employer brand narrative that better connected candidates to TikTok’s culture, values, and employee experience while supporting a more modern and content-driven recruiting journey.
